IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BANKRUPTCY!

  • It is illegal to cash a tax return for the year you file, or any year prior to filing.
  • Your bankruptcy is not "closed" until the trustee closes the case.
  • Your discharge does not mean that your case is closed.
  • You must provide a Picture ID and proof of Social Security Number The following are acceptable forms of ID:

Driver’s License;

Government Picture ID;

State Picture ID;

Student Picture ID;

US Passport;

Military ID;

Resident Alien card; or

Mexican Consulate Card [added in 2002]

The Following are acceptable forms of proof of SSN:

SS Card;

Medical insurance card with full SSN on it;

W-2 Form;

IRS 1099;

SSA report with SSN on it.
